Originally from Winfield, Kansas, Keni Davis has lived in Altadena for over twenty years. We are fortunate to have such incredible talent among our residents. In addition to painting beautiful scenic watercolors of the Dena's (Altadena and Pasadena), Keni has created a series of paintings titled "The Hollywood Backlots" which are inspired during his time working as a scenic artist in the movie industry.

"Hollywood Backlots series represent hundreds of drawings and paintings created from some of the most famed and filmed real estate in the world, for both movies and television." These are candid paintings of sets, props and people he encountered in the movie and television business. Many of his paintings were sketched during lunchtime and then completed when he would return to his Altadena studio.

"Fine art is a process, not a product," says Keni. "It doesn't start with the paint, nor does fine art end with the picture. The process starts in the artist and continues in the viewer where minds and emotions interact; thus fulfilling the statement that paint, pastel, bronze, etc., are indeed mediums."

We believe it and can see it in his art when Keni says, "Art can be a powerful force for social change. Knowing this, I tend to create whole series of paintings that revolve around issues that are important to me. It’s my way of encouraging, while gently promoting awareness, among my viewers."
